Flowerheads are up to 3 cm in diameter, formed in a compact cluster; they have yellow florets above an egg-shaped involucre lined by two distinct rows of phyllaries. Those in the upper row, pressed against the involucre, are dull green, with a line of short bristly hairs along the midrib, while those in the lower row are shorter, spreading, and mostly hairless
Leaves:
Narrow, lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, lined by wavy teeth, or lobes, and covered with white bristles of varying length. Often reddish tinged, especially along the margins
