Flowers:
Red-purple in bud, yellow-orange when open, and 2.5 cm in diameter, with four relatively large petals, and four sepals half as long. Produced as a terminal cluster on stout stems which are woody towards the base
Fruit:
Hairy, flattened pods, up to 7 cm long, on stalks, pointing vertically upwards
Leaves:
Narrowly lanceolate, bright green, glossy, up to 10 cm long
