In dense, stalkless, egg-shaped clusters at the top of the straight, hairy stems, subtended by a pair of leaves. Flowers are pink to purple, occasionally white, while the calyces are green, divided into long, thin lobes, and covered by long white hairs
Leaves:
Trifoliate; three ovate, hairy, greyish-green leaflets up to 3 cm long, each marked with a pale-coloured, crescent-shaped patch at the centre. Attached by short stalks, which have narrow, triangular stipules at the base, crossed by purplish veins and tapering at the tip to a brown bristle
