Four large yellow petals, up to 5 cm long, eight short stamens and a much longer stigma, topped by a four-lobed style. The sepals are long and narrow, recurved when mature, and often red in colour. Stems have a covering of short, rough, red-based hairs, and may also be coloured red

Elliptic, up to 15 cm long, often wrinkled or twisted
