Shady woodland, on calcareous soils; also in hollows within sand dunes
Flowers:
Pendent, often opening only partly. The petals and sepals are approximately equal in size, and similarly coloured, light yellowish-green. The lower petal, the lip, is constricted in the middle, tapering to a narrow, flat tip (the epichile). Flowers and the upper portion of the stem are hairless
Leaves:
Alternate, bright green, narrowly ovate, in two opposite rows; up to 6 cm long, often shorter than the distance between adjacent nodes
