Typhaceae

The typhaceae (cattail, or bulrush family) is a small group of aquatic plants, in two genera, typha and sparganium, this latter previously classified in its own family, sparganiaceae. Leaves are flat, linear and grass-line, while flowers are arranged in spikes, branched or not, with male and female flowers different in appearance and position. In the UK there are two typha species and four sparganium.
